This decadent chocolate cherry smoothie has been in my rotation for years. It's one of my favorites and I am certain it will be one of yours too.
Frozen cherries, frozen banana, cacao powder, almond butter, cinnamon, and plant milk blend together to create this smoothie reminiscent of a chocolate covered cherry.
Can I use cocoa powder?
Yes. Cocoa powder can be subbed for cacao powder if you don't have it on hand.
How much cacao do I use?
I fluctuate between using 2-3 tbsp depending on how chocolatey I want the smoothie to be. Two tbsp yields a cherry forward smoothie and 3 tbsp yields a cacao forward smoothie.
You can use other nut butters however my recommendation is almond butter as it compliments the cherry and cacao flavors beautifully.
If you find you need a sweetener medjool dates are my recommendation.
Cherry Chocolate Smoothie
Vegan | Gluten Free | Soy Free
Equipment: High speed blender
1 frozen banana, approximately 3/4 cup sliced
1 cup frozen cherries
2-3 tbsp cacao powder
2 tbsp almond butter
3/4 cup plant milk
1. Add all ingredients to a blender and blend on high until smooth.
2. Taste and adjust flavor/texture if desired. Best if enjoyed immediately. Can be stored in the fridge in an airtight container like a mason jar up to 24 hours. Can be frozen for up to a week. To thaw put in the fridge overnight.
