Not to flex or anything but this is the best tempeh bacon marinade. I have tried countless combinations of this marinade but I keep coming back to this one. It does it for me. It’s smoky, a bit sweet, with a hint heat and it caramelizes nicely when fried up - it’s got it all.
Tempeh Bacon Marinade
Vegan | Gluten Free | Nut Free
1 tbsp liquid aminos (or tamamri)
1 tbsp avocado oil (or sub other mild oil)
1 tbsp maple or agave
1 tsp liquid smoke
1 tsp ACV
1/2 tbsp+ molasses (I like mine molasses heavy)
1/2 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp garlic powder
Couple dashes of Tabasco or cayenne
1. In a small mixing bowl combine all ingredients and whisk together.
2. Slice 1/2 package of tempeh into desired strips and toss in marinade. If using a full package of tempeh I suggest doubling the recipe.
3. Set in fridge for at least 15 minutes prior to cooking.
4. Heat a pan over medium heat and then add oil of choice. I like to use an oil spray. Then add your marinated tempeh strips to the pan. Let them brown on one side before flipping and browning on the other side. The marinade will burn so keep an eye on them!
Serve and enjoy. Goes great on sandwiches, salads, and as a side with breakfast.
